Pictures from around Khabarovsk.

This is Khabarovsk, from Lenin Square facing west. There is a lot of pedestrian traffic down town.

This is the statue of Lenin downtown -- pretty much every Russian city has one.

This is the beach where people swim in the summer. The river is still iced over at the moment. It usually clears at the end of April.

This is a new Russian Orthodox church in the center of town that was recently rebuilt after having been destroyed in Soviet times.

This is our Hotel, the Intourist.

The view from our window is the Amur river, which divides Russia and China before heading north past Khabarovsk. The opposite side of the river from Khabarovsk is still known as the Jewish Autonomus Region. It is the part of Siberia where Stalin sent the Russian Jews. There remained a large Jewish population there until recently when they all emigrated to Israel. To the southwest is a wildlife area that is the home to hundreds of tigers.
